The sonnenCharger enables E-Mobility  


The sonnenCharger is our smart charging solution which delivers clean energy to our customers’ electric vehicles as a leading part of our sonnen product portfolio. It integrates with the sonnenBattery, the sonnen VPP and the energy tariffs sonnen offers. We’re looking for a backend centric software engineer who helps us to improve our existing smart charging solution 


Your Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to our smart charging solution 

  • Design solutions for control, management and monitoring 

  • Improve the scalability and fault-tolerance of our systems written in Java / Spring. 

  • Design, analyse, and improve algorithms to control a large number of sonnenChargers 

  • Implement protocols and APIs 

  • Use Python with Jupyter Notebooks to analyse the behaviour of our system. 

  • Enable your peer developers and stakeholders 

  • Take responsibility not only for the design and development of the system, but also for its operation. 

Your Profile: 

  • Programming skills: Our common goal is to build a good product. You consider programming as a means to an end. You understand that not all problems can be solved by code. 

  • Experience in IoT, embedded systems and electrical engineering is a plus. If you don’t have it yet, you’re open to learn about it. 

  • You’ve seen different programming paradigms and you know when to choose which. 

  • Prior experience with Java / Spring necessary, experience with functional languages a plus Open to use Python / Jupyter notebooks for analysis and prototyping purposes. You’ve already used Docker, AWS, Terraform, relational and NoSQL databases. You have a basic understanding of frontend / app technologies and know how to bridge the gap between frontend and backend development. 

  • Automation and decision making based on evidence has become a habit for you 

  • You understand the strengths and weaknesses of different testing approaches 

  • You aim to write code that your peers can easily understand and maintain. 

  • You like to learn as part of a team and share your knowledge with others. 

  • Fluency in German and English
